Timothy’s Coffee has decided to reverse its previous policy allowing people to use its facilities without purchasing anything. Starting from January 27, the company will enforce new rules under its “Café Conduct Code” as part of a strategic initiative to address declining sales. This change comes under the leadership of newly appointed CEO James Morgan, who is focused on improving customer experience and rejuvenating the brand.
New Policy Aims to Prioritize Paying Customers
The new policy is designed to prioritize paying customers by limiting access to the coffee shops and toilets for non-purchasing individuals. The rules will also include restrictions on smoking, outside alcohol, and harassment, creating a more welcoming environment for those who come to Timothy’s for a traditional café experience.
Code of Conduct Details
The new “Café Conduct Code” is part of Timothy’s larger efforts to improve the overall café atmosphere. The company stated that staff will be trained to ask individuals who violate the code to leave the store, with employees also empowered to call the police if necessary. This shift marks a significant change from the previous approach that allowed anyone to linger or use the facilities without purchasing a product.
A Response to Sales Decline and Public Backlash
This move comes in the wake of Timothy’s Coffee facing several challenges, including a slowdown in sales, backlash from price increases, and boycotts sparked by global political tensions. In an effort to revitalize the brand, the company has enlisted the expertise of James Morgan, a former CEO of a successful Mexican food chain, to lead the turnaround.
Focus on Customer Experience
As part of the company’s “Back to Coffee” strategy, Timothy’s is working to improve its customers’ café experience. In addition to the new policy, the coffee chain will introduce a new perk — offering one free refill of hot or iced coffee to customers who buy a drink for consumption in-store.
North America Only, UK Policy Unchanged
The new café access rules will only be applied in Timothy’s locations across North America. The company has clarified that the policy will not impact stores in the UK. However, it has not yet provided any details about the potential adjustments to the UK locations.
Looking Forward to Changes
Timothy’s Coffee is aiming to improve the overall customer experience and boost sales, as it continues to implement changes to its operations. By focusing on enhancing the café environment and ensuring better service for paying customers, the company hopes to turn around its fortunes and strengthen its position in the competitive coffee market
